For the 13th time in a row the National League loses an All Star Game, and once again the National League will NOT have home field advantage in the World Series.
Even though Ryan Howard had a chance to be a hero in front of the town where he grew up, he could not, and struck out in the bottom of the 8th with two on and Mariano Rivera got the save in the 9th to close it out for the AL.
The bottom line is even though "This One Counts" is the motto for this game, it still felt like an exhibition game and it is still as weak as the other Pro All Star games. Maybe they could bring retired All Star pitchers from the past like Greg Maddux or Dennis Eckersley to pitch.
Teams with home field advantage for the last 6 years are 3 and 3 in the World Series, so why are making this game count again? TV? Advertisers? Ratings?
Something needs to be done to make up for the 2 plus hours I wasted on that game..countdown to football.

I disagree. It is way better than the other league's all-star games. They play the game at the same speed as regular season. In football guys would never do that. Basketball all-star has no defense. I saw some good pitching, and nice defense in this game; except for Wright and Pujols in the 1st inning.
ReplyDeleteI guess for a All Star game I want some action, and although it is played at same speed, I want home runs or something different from the regular season. It is supposed to be for the fans, but I can't imagine too many fans were entertained by that game last night, I know I wasn't.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, these guys don't give the game their all and have little incentive to - risk injury so some team in your league (not yours, most likely) gets home field? Not a real good proposition. Just take a look at Lindsey-cum's weak performance in the 1st, the kid didn't make a quick move to cover 1st on a routine infield hit. Brutal.
ReplyDeleteHey 58... If the NL lost, how do they get home field advantage?
They should make steroid use legal again
ReplyDeleteI thought it was an entertaining game for a number of reasons.
ReplyDelete- The fact that D and baserrunning stole the show was a reflection of the change in the game itself in the post roid era
- 30 new all stars put to rest the transitin in MLB from old to new. Of the 5 active players with 500 HR's or more none played in this game. Manny, ARod, Thome etc.
- The AL flexed its muscle in what appera sto be a never ending streak of w's. While homefield may be 3-3 in the last 6 years Game 7's have gone to the home team the last 7 times played. look it up.
Keep up the good work Marut.
